A message from Consul General Lise Nordgaard:

Dear Norwegian community in Shanghai. As we are entering May we are going into Shanghai's second month of lockdown. While the number of daily new infections continues to be high, recent numbers has showed a downward trend. More residents in Shanghai have also been allowed to walk a bit more freely outdoor, but there are still many uncertainties.

To assist the Norwegian community in Shanghai the Consulate has arranged a meeting every week since the lockdown began. Last week's meeting included Arnfinn Tønnessen, Head of Group Crisis Management Team in DNV, providing useful advice on handling the challenges of a lockdown. It is important that everyone takes good care of themselves, and one of the good tips was to use the time in lockdown to take up a new, or an old hobby.

On 27 April the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs decided to advice against all travel to Shanghai that is not strictly necessary. You can always find the latest travel advice for China and Shanghai here. We encourage everyone to contact their insurance company in Norway to discuss if the travel advice has any impact on your insurance.

I would like to remind that if you are planning to fly out of Shanghai you can reach out to the Consulate, and we will assist as much as possible. Please get contact us in due time before your scheduled flight.

The Consulate General's events and social activities are still being postponed or held as digital events. Klubb Norge and Norwegian Business Association China (NBA) are in the same situation.

Unfortunately, the Consulate General’s traditional 17 May celebration will not be organized this year. I hope we can find other opportunities to celebrate when Shanghai has opened up again. I wish you a safe and healthy May, and encourage everyone to continue to stay positive and test negative.
