Norway–China Green Transition & Hydrogen Forum 2026 – Beijing
On 25 March 2026, the Norway–China Green Transition & Hydrogen Forum was successfully held in Beijing in conjunction with the 16th Clean Energy Expo China & The China international Hydrogen Congress and Expo, bringing together representatives from Norwegian and Chinese government bodies, energy experts, and industry leaders. Organized by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Beijing, Innovation Norway, and the Norwegian Business Association China, the forum served as a high-level platform for dialogue on green transition, with a particular focus on hydrogen cooperation.
The forum opened with remarks from H.E. Vebjørn Dysvik, Ambassador of Norway to China, who emphasized that green transition has become a shared priority for both countries, with hydrogen playing a key role in achieving long-term climate goals. He highlighted the strong foundation of Norway–China cooperation and the growing importance of clean energy collaboration. Mr. Hao Yingjie, Secretary General of the China Electricity Council, echoed this perspective, outlining China’s rapid progress in hydrogen development and emphasizing the complementary strengths of the two countries.
The forum was divided into two sessions, the first session, Green Energy Transition Outlook: Policy, Market Direction and Cooperation Opportunities, focused on the overall trends shaping the energy transition. Speakers including Mr. Guo Yuan, H2 & CCS Lead for DNV Energy Systems China of DNV, Mr. Mr. Fu Xiaolong, Deputy Director of the Beijing Tsinghua Industrial R&D Institute Director of the International Hydrogen Energy Centre, Mr. Chenjiang Xiao, Deputy General Manager, CHN Energy Hydrogen Innovation Co., Ltd and Mr. Marc Courtemanche, Country President at Equinor in China/ Board member of Norwegian Business Association China provided insights into Norwegian and China-specific energy transition pathways, policy developments, and market dynamics. The session highlighted the accelerating shift toward low-carbon energy systems, the growing role of hydrogen, and the urgency of scaling solutions, while also identifying key opportunities for international cooperation.
The second session, Norway–China Clean Energy Cooperation: Hydrogen Technologies and Solutions, shifted focus to concrete industry practices and innovations. Norwegian companies, including NEO Monitors, UAC, Vireon, Ceramic Powder Technology, and Hystar, showcased technologies and solutions across the hydrogen value chain, covering areas such as carbon capture and storage, safety monitoring, storage and transport, refueling infrastructure, advanced materials, and electrolyzer technologies. From the Chinese side, Shanghai Electric Green Fuel Technology Co., Ltd. shared practical project experience in green fuel production. Together, these presentations demonstrated how technological innovation and cross-border collaboration can translate into real-world applications and scalable solutions.
Moderated by Mr. Henning Kristoffersen, Commercial Counsellor at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Beijing and Country Director of Innovation Norway China, the forum facilitated dynamic exchanges between Norwegian and Chinese stakeholders. Discussions throughout the event underscored the complementary strengths of both countries and the strong potential for collaboration in advancing the green transition.
The forum concluded by reaffirming the growing momentum of Norway–China cooperation in clean energy and hydrogen, highlighting the importance of continued collaboration across policy, technology, and industry to support global carbon neutrality goals.
